410 410 stainless is a corrosion and heat resistant 12% chromium steel. It is the most widely used of the hardenable stainless steels. Heat treated 410 has mechanical properties comparable to the engineering alloy steel AISI 4130, coupled with the additional benefit of good corrosion resistance. 410 is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion.

Stainless Steel Type 410 Rolled Metal Products Description Type 410 is a corrosion and heat resistant martensitic stainless steel containing approximately 12% chromium offering a wide range of mechanical properties through heat treatment. This grade offers a moderate level of corrosion resistance and the maximum resistance is obtained by hardening through heat treatment followed by polishing.
Types 410, 420, 425 Modified, and 440A (see composition on Page 2) are hardenable, straight-chromium stainless steels which combine superior wear resistance of high carbon alloys with the excellent corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels.
Stainless Steel Grade 410S (UNS S41008)
IntroductionWeldingMachinabilityHot WorkingStainless steels are high-alloy steels with good corrosionresistance due to large amounts of chromium present in them. Most ofthe stainless steels contain about 10% of chromium. Stainless steels are available in three different groups based ontheir crystalline structure. These groups include martensitic, austenitic and ferritic. The combination of martensitic and ferriticsteels forms a fourth group of stainless steels known asprecipitation-hardened steels.
